| ENGLISH FULL-TIME COURSES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
General English Courses This program is available from beginners to advanced level and is aimed at developing students' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as well as encouraging them to become independent learners.
Students undertake 25 hours of tuition per week for a duration of 4-48 weeks. The General English Courses have a task-based approach to language learning with an emphasis on classroom activities which encourage students to use language effectively. Out-of-class tasks which maximise the use of the English environment are also assigned. Formal and informal assessments are on- going and include checklists, projects, questionnaires and role-plays. A minimum attendance of 80% and satisfactory completion of the course is required in order to be awarded a Certificate of Attainment. Excursions in and around NSW are planned in conjunction with students on a regular basis. Excursions are at an extra cost.
English For Academic Purposes
This course is designed to prepare students to undertake studies in Senior High School, TAFE or University. Emphasis is placed on essay and report writing as well as seminar presentations.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program offered at Applied Scholastics Training Centre is designed to familiarise upper intermediate and advanced students with the cultural norms/ values of tertiary institutions in Australia; enable students to gain the necessary linguistic skills/ competencies needed for successful tertiary study and enable students to develop the necessary study skills and learning strategies needed for successful tertiary study.
EAP is 12-24 weeks and on successful completion, a Certificate of Attainment is awarded leading to university or TAFE studies. Academic/ Language Tasks are embedded within a series of general themes of interest and use to the student such as The Australian Political System. EAP further develops students' basic word processing skills for assignments.
A variety of teaching methods including the communicative approach is used as well as independent learning projects to encourage self-directed learning. Students are assessed in a variety of ways such as on-going assessments, essays, summaries, presentations and researched reports.
